Outpatient Pediatric Therapy

A Caring Approach to Enriching Young Lives

At Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Services, our caring professionals understand the challenges that families face when a child has physical or developmental disabilities. Our interdisciplinary team of professionals provides the family with support and guidance throughout the therapeutic process.

Our pediatric therapists and developmental specialists assess each child’s developmental needs, set appropriate goals, and create an individualized intervention plan and a home treatment program. Working together, the team coordinates care for children with multiple needs among their physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

We stress parent/caregiver involvement, training, and education for the entire family. Additionally, we provide information and referrals to community resources, thereby increasing a child’s potential for success.

We treat children from newborn to adolescence who have been diagnosed with any of the following conditions:
• Autism Spectrum
• Developmental Delay
• Speech and Language Delay
• Sensory Integration Dysfunction
• Fine and Gross Motor Skill Delay
• Hearing Impairment
• Orthopedic and Neurological Conditions

Located at the Herrick Campus in Berkeley, California, our Pediatric Outpatient Program consists of:

Early Intervention Program –
Small Voice
(18 months to 3 years)
This specialized, early intervention program serves children with developmental delays in a comprehensive, family-friendly environment. Through partnerships with families and the community, we seek to boost each child’s potential to communicate, interact, and learn from the surrounding world. Our early intervention team includes a speech-language pathologist, an occupational therapist, a develop-mental specialist, and a classroom aide. We facilitate family/professional collaboration at all levels of service provision, honoring the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of families. We offer morning and afternoon sessions with a maximum enrollment of 10 children per session.

Speech/Language Pathology Services
We perform comprehensive evaluations that include careful observation and assessment of speech and language skills. Next, with input from the family we develop treatment plans with individual therapeutic goals to facilitate improvement in communication and oral-motor skills. We offer speech/language services for children from newborn through adolescence.

Occupational Therapy Services
Our Occupational Therapists (OT) assist children with developmental delays and sensory integration problems to achieve greater independence in the functional skills necessary for activities of daily living. The therapists evaluate and assess each child’s skills and abilities, and then develop a therapy program that includes consultation, coordination of treatment sessions with physical and speech therapists if appropriate, and instruction for home program follow-through.

Physical Therapy Services
The goal of Physical Therapy (PT) is to help children with developmental delays in gross motor skills to achieve a maximum level of independent mobility. Our therapists evaluate and assess each child’s skills and abilities, and then design a treatment plan that includes therapeutic techniques, consultation, coordination of other therapies, and a home program.

Audiology Services
California-licensed and ASHA-certified audiologists screen for and diagnose hearing problems. We also provide a comprehensive hearing- aid dispensing program.

Neuropsychology Services
The Neuropsychology program offers diagnostic testing for children with learning disabilities, behavioral issues, depression, and other mental health issues that interfere with daily living. Children have the opportunity to overcome their challenges through intensive work with our neuropsychologists who identify potential sources of problems, develop educational/behavioral strategies, and provide counseling
for the child and/or the family.
