  • Asian Outreach

    The Asian Outreach Program was developed to meet the needs of our diverse Asian community. It is comprised of the Asian Volunteer Program, which primarily serves patients at the Summit Campus where 22% of the patients are of Asian descent. Volunteers are available to visit with patients and assist them through their hospital and outpatient stays. The Asian Outreach Program reaches out to the community and provides regularly scheduled health education seminars, health screenings, and participates in many community health fairs and events throughout the year. The Health Resource Center, located in Oakland Chinatown’s Pacific Renaissance Plaza, provides multilingual health education materials to the community. The center provides a place for the community to go to learn about various health topics in written and video form.     Brain Injury Life Skills Program

    The Brain Injury Life Skills Program provides post-acute services for brain injured individuals and their caregivers to make adjustments in their interpersonal relationships, job performance and academic achievement.     Breast Health Access for Women with Disabilities

    Breast Health Access for Women with Disabilities (BHAWD) is a community partnership established in 1995. It is a nationally recognized model in leadership and collaboration for increasing health services and accessibility for women with disabilities. In order to advance its mission of increasing access, BHAWD continues to develop its priority areas that include: clinical services, educational training to medical providers, outreach and education to clients, public policy, and research.

    BHAWD is a program of the Rehabilitation Department of Alta Bates Summit with a mission to increase access to breast health information, screenings, and early breast cancer detection for women with disabilities. To contact BHAWD, please call (510) 204-4866, or check out BHAWD online.

    East Bay AIDS Center (EBAC)

    If you're living with HIV and AIDS, you will find hands-on support, medical treatments, complementary therapies, and educational services at EBAC. Our program is led by a multidisciplinary team of caring professionals, offering you comprehensive services throughout the continuum of HIV disease. EBAC staff members are sensitive and dedicated to caring for people of all sexual orientations, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. We have staff on site from several community-based agencies to facilitate access to the numerous services available to people living with HIV and AIDS.     Ethnic Health Institute

    The Ethnic Health Institute (EHI) coordinates health education, research, health-provider training, and community outreach, with a special focus on underserved and minority populations. EHI, in partnership with public and private healthcare institutions, academic health programs, health insurers and practitioners, community-based organizations, and leaders addresses many health issues including prostate cancer, asthma management, hypertension, diabetes, and end-of-life decision-making.     Health Access Program

    The Health Access Program helps its more than 7,000 members, many of them seniors, handle their health-related concerns - everything from sorting out medical bills to finding a doctor. Every month, the program offers free community lectures and seminars as well as free and low-cost screenings. Click here to learn more about the Health Access Program.     Health Ministry Program

    The Health Ministry Program encourages local faith communities to link spirituality and health care. Registered nurses work with Oakland and Berkeley congregations to help their members prioritize their health-care needs and act as health educators, counselors, and patient advocates.     Lifeline

    Lifeline is a personal emergency response system used at home by the elderly and physically challenged. Over 700 Lifeline subscribers in our area are linked to 24-hour assistance by pushing a portable button attached to a neck cord or wristband. Lifeline subscribers enjoy their independence while knowing that help, should they need it, is readily available. To contact Lifeline, call (510) 869-8992.

    Markstein Cancer Education & Prevention Services

    Markstein Cancer Education & Prevention Services promotes self-examination, early detection, and the adoption of risk-reducing life style habits to prevent and treat cancer. They provide outreach education, free community cancer screenings and offers support and educational tools to those impacted by a diagnosis of cancer, serving over 10,000 clients annually.     Operation Access

    Operation Access collaborates with surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and other medical professionals at the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center to provide donated outpatient surgical care to uninsured people in our community. Operation Access is a network of 60 community clinics, 16 other participating hospitals, and over 300 medical volunteers serving the six county Bay area.     Youth Bridge

    The Youth Bridge Career and Internship Program is a comprehensive, year-round youth development program designed to assist East Bay high school students by encouraging them to complete their schooling and to pursue higher academic and/or vocational goals. The majority of students involved in Youth Bridge are considered "high-risk" students. One of the goals of Youth Bridge is to encourage students to "dream beyond their circumstance." The program is designed to help participants learn to set goals, make decisions, complete tasks, and benefit from opportunities that may arise. To contact Youth Bridge, call (510) 869-8225.
